Lancaster: The Significance of the Retail Industry
The city of Lancaster can be found in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Geographically, it is located on the south central region of the state, right in the Lancaster County. The city is on the west of Philadelphia, northeast of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. and southeast of Harrisburg. Some of the towns nearest to Lancaster include East Petersburg, Landisville, Leola, Lititz, Rothsville, Willow Street, Mountville and Millersville. In addition, the city functions as the seat of government of Lancaster County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total population of 59, 322 as of the year 2010. It ranks as the 8th most populated city in Pennsylvania, and one of the oldest inland towns in the United States. Lancaster is also part of the greater Lancaster Metropolitan area, which has a population of 507, 766 as of 2010. Its MSA is considered the 2nd largest in the area of South Central Pennsylvania and the 101st largest in the whole country.
The economy of Lancaster is slowly picking up after its redevelopment. It is continuously focused on the retail industry, since it is considered as one of the economy’s major assets.
