The city of Wylie was once a city solely located in the Collin County. However, with the city’s expansion, it now extends to the neighboring Rockwall and Dallas counties in the state of Texas. The city is a progressive one as its economy diversified and more industries flourished in the city.

The city of Wylie, Texas has many interesting sites and history to share to the American locals and foreign tourists. The city was once called the Onion Capital. A mural in Ballard Street shows how railroads affected the city’s economy. During the years 1930s and 1940s, the city earned the nickname ‘The Onion Capital of the World,’ as the city had a reputation of growing and marketing sweet onions, which were of great demand during those years. The marketing of the onions were made possible by the creation of the railroads.

The parks scattered around the city of Wylie are famous tourist destinations in the city. The parks feature many recreational fields. The Olde City Park highlights a gazebo, wooden benches and a small play area. The Brown House is another famous tourist destination in the city of Wylie, Texas. This house is not literally painted brown but it comes with a mauve color. However, the name is derived from the name of its original owners, Mattie and William Brown. The house was created in the year 1905. The house has exquisite architectural style based on the Victorian architecture. This house s registered in the Texas Historic Landmarks.

The St Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie, Texas is another famous site in the city. The city was established in 1890 and this is actually the first church built in the city. However, the original church building was destroyed during a fire accident in the year 1900. After the incident, the church was rebuilt into its present wooden church design. Tourists visit the place to view the exceptional architecture of the church.

Downtown Wylie has a lot of interesting buildings and shops that are worthy to be visited.
