The city of South Bend is the county seat of the St Joseph County in the state of Indiana. The city is the fourth largest city in the state. In addition, the city is also the economic as well as the cultural hub in the Michiana region.

The location of the city on the St. Joseph River resulted in the development of an industrialized economy in the late 19th century. Several large manufacturing companies have chosen the city as their headquarters because of its location. While old manufacturing companies have gone, there are new companies that have made the city their home. The city still houses the remnants of the old economy, as there are still abandoned industrial buildings in the city. Health care, education and small business have become the forefront of the city’s economy since the 1960s.

Arts and culture are also prominent in the city. The Polish Catholic immigrants have influenced the city during the 19th century. In fact, Dygnus Day is celebrated after Easter. This is also the beginning of the election campaign season of the city. Fat Tuesday is also celebrated in the city.

Annual festivals are also common in South Bend. One of these festivals is the Reggae Music Festival. This festival displays the world’s premier reggae artists known locally and internationally every summer. The proceeds of this festival are donated to the Pangani Foundation. This foundation provides medical supplies to Malawi hospitals. An All Day Country Concert is also celebrated in the city annually. The Country Station, WBYT FM B100, hosts this. Another festival celebrated in the city is the World Pulse Festival. This event is a contemporary Christina music festival that is celebrated annually by more than 50,000 individuals.

Museums are also common in South Bend. One of the famous ones is the Museum of Art. This is located in the Century Center. The museum features a wide array of artists from the city and the Michiana Region. This museum also offers classes and workshops for both children and adults. Another popular museum in the city is the Northern Indiana Center for History. The center features Copshaholm, which is listed in the National Register of Historical Places. The city is home to the Studebaker National Museum. This museum holds a vast collection of automobiles and wagons. In addition, the Morris Performing Arts Center is also a famous go to place in the city of South Bend.
