Fort Collins: An Inspiration to Disneyland

In the U.S. state of Colorado lies the city of Fort Collins. It is the seat of government of Larimer County. The city is named as a home rule municipality, which is defined as a self-governing entity in the state. Fort Collins has the power to choose any form of government, and may declare itself to be a town or a city. Home rule municipalities are rampant in Colorado, since it was allowed to implement such government under the Constitution of Colorado. Geographically, the city of Fort Collins sits on the banks of the La Poudre River, which is located in the Colorado Front Range, a geographical term to describe the state’s most populous region. It can be found north of the city of Denver, which functions as the capital city of the state. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city’s estimated population is 148, 612 as of the year 2012.

Fort Collins is a charming city that is known for the quality of living. In 2006, Money magazine had ranked the city 1st in their list of “Best Places to Live in the United States”. In 2008, the city was once again included in the list, but had placed 2nd. In 2010, the city was still recognized in the top 10 U.S. Best Places to Live. Just recently, Forbes magazine included Fort Collins in its list of the “U.S. Best Places for Business and Careers”. It ranks 7th out of the many major cities in the whole country, including Denver that ranked No. 6. Another distinction is that the city is home to one of the world’s largest energy districts. Despite such achievements, the city of Fort Collins is still known as the one similar to the Main Street, U.S.A. The Main Street, U.S.A. is considered as the first location to have a theme from the gates of the Disneyland-inspired parks. These parks are operated by the famous Walt Disney Company, including Magic Kingdom, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Park in Paris. The Main Street, U.S.A is said to have gotten its design from the architecture and cityscape of the city of Fort Collins. Some of the facilities located in the Main Street, U.S.A. are the City Hall and Guest Relations Office. The buildings along the road are adorned with the names of Imagineers and other staff who contributed significant ideas to the creation and management of various Disneylands.
