Des Moines: Insurance is the Name of the Game

The city of Des Moines is situated in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is considered as the state’s capital city, as well as the most populous one among other Iowa cities. Geographically, the city is coated in the Polk County, but it extends into the Warren County by a small portion. Des Moines is observed at the confluence of two rivers, namely: Des Moines River and Racoon River. The name of the city may be influenced by the Des Moines River, which is adapted from the French phrase “Riviera des Moines”, which translates to the “River of the Monks.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Des Moines has a population of 203, 433 as of 2010. In 2012, the population is estimated to increase to 206, 688. Based on the given population data, the city of Des Moines ranks as the 104th most populous city in the whole United States. In addition, the city is also part of the five-county Metropolitan area with a population of 580, 255, which gave it the 88th rank among the metropolitan areas in the United States. The Des Moines Metropolitan Area consists of Dallas, Guthrie, Polk, Warren and Madison counties.

The city of Des Moines is known for their thriving insurance industry. Due to this, Des Moines is often referred as the Hartford of the West.
