The city of Davenport is located in the state of Iowa. It is considered the seat of government of Scott County, wherein it is also the largest among the county’s cities. Geographically, Davenport lies along the banks of the Mississippi River. Its location is halfway between the cities of Des Moines and Chicago. It also serves as the border of the states of Illinois and Iowa. According to the Census Bureau, Davenport is southeast of the Minneapolis city, and north of the St. Louis city, both in Minnesota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of Davenport has an estimated population of 101, 363 as of 2012. It is the 3rd most populous city in the state of Iowa, and the 284th most populous city in the United States. In addition, the city is part of the Quad Cities that have a population of 383, 681 as of 2013. The Quad Cities Metropolitan Area is comprised of 5 cities near the Mississippi River, namely: Moline, Rock Island, East Moline, Davenport and Bettendorf. These cities belong to two states, Illinois and Iowa.

According to statistics, the city of Davenport boasts a lower cost of living as compared to the national average in the United States. However, this does not mean that the quality of living in the city is compromised. In fact, the city garnered the award “City Livability Award” in the category of “small-city” in 2007. The title was given by the U.S. Conference of Mayors that was looking for urban areas that are safe, clean and more livable as the result of ideal mayoral leadership. Forbes also awarded the city of Davenport for being the best metropolitan area in 2009 in terms of cost of living. It was also noted that the city ranks 16th place in the whole country based on the affordability of housing.

Manufacturing is the biggest economic driver in Davenport. Over 7, 600 jobs are available in the manufacturing sector alone, making it the biggest labor industry in the city. Some of the manufacturing companies that provide employment to the citizens of Davenport are John Deere (Quad Cities’ 2nd largest employer), Kinger Manufacturing Company, Sears Manufacturing, Standard Byke Manufacturing, Inc. and Samuel Brown. Other employers include Hy-Vee, Von Maur, Lee Enterprises, Genesis Health System, Davenport Community School District and Trinity Regional Health System. The employment growth in Davenport is reported to have increased to 8.4% as of 2009.
